Enterprise: Shuttle And Starship

The Geek Picture of the Day will boldly go where no man has gone before.

This photo shows the Sept. 17, 1976 public debut of  the Space Shuttle Enterprise, in Palmdale, California. In the foreground, several guests familiar with their own spacecraft called Enterprise pose for the camera: Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, DeForest Kelly and James Doohan.

The Enterprise never flew in space, but was used extensively for testing and prototyping. It was retired from duty in April 2012, and is currently on public display at the Intrepid Museum in New York City.
