1991 GMC Topkick tractor
Hi all
This will be a “modern” tractor used for inner city deliveries and as a yard goat. I find a picture on Hanks Truck Picture from an ABF unit pulling a single axel probably 27 ft. trailer which impressed me and that is the reason for that idea.
First some facts to the truck:
1919 GMC Topkick
Single axel tractor
Engine Caterpillar 3208
Transmission 10 speed Eaton-Fuller RT-610
Air brake system
It will be a simple working truck a bit old and rusty
This truck is build up from old parts. The only thing which is new is the hood.
The parts:
Front bumper, grill with lights and the hood from P&P Resin Works
The frame and the front axel from Italeri
Tires and rims from Revell
The cab and the interior from AMT’s Chevrolet Silverado
The engine, transmission and the rear axel from AMT
And of course many parts from the spear box or better said from the junk yard
Here some pics from the start
I cut the hood away from the resin cab and the fenders from the AMT cab. I will use the AMT cab and the resin hood. The parts fit quite well but there is still some work to be done.
The frame is made out of some old Italeri frame parts. The entire holes I do not need were closed and sanded. Because the Italeri front leaf springs and the AMT rear leaf springs do not fit to each other I had to try some thing else. I used some old resin front leaf springs which are lower, with the Italeri front axel. The rear ones are from the Ford Louisville as well as the rear axel.
I put the cab with the hood on to the frame to see how it looks like. There is still a lot of work to be done but that little truck has a very special appearance.
I use Revel rims and tires from the Kenworth dumper. I reworked them and made some two hole rims out of them. I think this rims fit well to that truck. These tires have a modern shape and grate for that truck.
Then I started with the hood. I cut down the lower part from the radiator grill and glued it to the hood. The front part of the frame was cut away, and to holder for the hood were glued into the frame. The whole construction fits quite well.
I put the cab on the frame for a test.
The next step is the front grill. I drilled holes in to each pit and then cut the rest of the material out until you can look through them.
I worked out the holder for the cab. I am not sure if they are 100% original because I didn’t find any detail pictures on that parts but I think they are ok for a model.
The next step was the front bumper. I reworked the original holders on the back and stretched the frame a bit so that when the parts were glued together it s possible to turn the wheels with out problems.
As far as the two holes were already in the front bumper I decided to use them for some tow hooks.
And here the idea for the trailer, 27 feet are perfect in my opinion.

Official: Jeep drops details on six Easter Jeep Safari Concepts
Filed under: Aftermarket, Concept Cars, SUV, Truck, Jeep, Design/Style, Off-Road
Jeep has released details on six new concepts the company crafted for this year's Easter Jeep Safari, including the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Concept. And while that vehicle boasts a slew of off-road goodies, including tow hooks, aggressive Goodyear Wrangler rubber and a rear light bar, we're more interested in the wicked Mighty FC Concept pictured above.
Engineers built the Mighty FC as a tribute to the Jeep Forward Control that was offered between 1956 and 1965. Using a 2012 Wrangler Rubicon as a platform, the company stretched the wheelbase, stuck the cab ahead of the front axle and threw in a custom drop-side cargo box. Underneath, the Mighty FC uses a set of Mopar eight-lug portal axles, which offer a surprising amount of ground clearance without having to resort to a lift. If you like what you see, the axles are available for a combined price of $23,500. The truck rolls on 40-inch tires, and a King coil-over suspension handles the bumps and bruises of the trail.
Of course, the Jeep J-12 Concept (above, left) is equally delicious in its own right. An extended version of the JK-8 pickup, the concept began life as a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited, though the frame has been stretched a total of 18 inches. With a full six-foot bed, custom hood and unique fenders, the concept is straight awesome. Build it, Jeep.
The automaker also showed off an accessorized version of the standard Wrangler as well as a Wrangler Traildozer concept (above, right). The latter of the two was built by partnering with the off-road gurus at American Expedition Vehicles. With a 470-horsepower 6.4-liter V8 and a Getrag six-speed manual gearbox, the machine has the go-bits to tackle any trail. Dana 44 axles with electronic locking differentials at the front and rear are also part of the package.
Likewise, the Wrangler Apache concept (above, left) gets its power from the same fire-breathing Hemi, though that vehicle uses a Mopar conversion kit for the swap. With a beefy lift and 5.13 axles, the Apache should have no problem taking on the rocks of Moab.
Unfortunately, Chrysler has yet to release a full batch of official images for each vehicle, so went to their headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI, and shot them ourselves. Look below for the lot of them, as well as Chrysler's official press release.

Video: Nissan GT-R avoids disaster three times in a matter of seconds
Posted on 03.25.2012 18:00 by Kirby |
We all understand the perils that come with engaging in something as dangerous as drag racing. But even if you’re pretty much risking life and limb at the thrill of the ride, a lot of people still strap on their seat belts to push the proverbial pedal to the metal.
This video, however, illustrates just how quickly things can go wrong in a drag strip. A pair of Nissan GT-Rs were primed and ready for some racing action but shortly after the green light turned on, the driver of one of the GT-Rs immediately loses control of his car, sending it spinning out of control and barely avoiding the cement walls not once, not twice, but three times!
Luckily, the driver managed to reign in his Godzilla before heading to the finish line with his car still intact and, more importantly, his body still in the right place.
Here’s to hoping the driver is more careful next time around.

'The point of no confidence is quite near'
The wreckage of Jochen Rindt's car at Barcelona |
?Colin. I have been racing F1 for 5 years and I have made one mistake (I rammed Chris Amon in Clermont Ferrand) and I had one accident in Zandvoort due to gear selection failure otherwise I managed to stay out of trouble. This situation changed rapidly since I joined your team. ?Honestly your cars are so quick that we would still be competitive with a few extra pounds used to make the weakest parts stronger, on top of that I think you ought to spend some time checking what your different employes are doing, I sure the wishbones on the F2 car would have looked different. Please give my suggestions some thought, I can only drive a car in which I have some confidence, and I feel the point of no confidence is quite near.?A little more than a year later Rindt's Lotus suffered mechanical breakdown just before braking into one of the corners. He swerved violently to the left and crashed into a poorly-installed barrier, killing him instantly.

1956 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe WIP
Starting a new build and I've been wanting to build a 56 hardtop for awhile. I have a 56 Nomad in dusk plum and Ivory and a 56 Delray that I did as a street machine. Now I need a Hardtop to add to my collection. So I picked up this Monogram kit over the holidays on sale somewhere. It's not a great kit but I think I can make it look respectable. I have some leftover and complete 56 Nomad PE that includes the longer hood and trunk Vs and badges for both, Bel Air script and badges for the rear fenders, and door handles and window cranks. I also have a bottle of Classic Copper metallic that is a little darker than Sierra Gold but close enough for me. I'm going to do a two-tone using Krylon Satin Almond for Adobe Beige to go with the copper. Looks like I have everything I need to get started! Thanks for looking!
